"But what if we leave and then they come back and we're not here?! One of us has to stay," David realizes, the fear of either of them being apart from the other and their kids etched deeply across his face.

"I know we agreed I'd have them until after lunch but Johannes has organised a surprise brunch and salsa class. He's such a thoughtful man and a very generous lover," she explains, mostly aimed at Bryan as she transfers Charlotte into his arms and lifts two backpacks onto the dining table. Sawyer strides in after them and immediately makes a beeline for one of the high stools by the kitchen counter, pulling it out and starting to climb up with confidence.
"Sawyer wet the bed again. He gets that from David's father," she informs Bryan in a hushed voice. "Okay, my darlings, granmommy loves you very much." Each child gets a whirlwind kiss on the head. "David, my beautiful boy," she blows kisses to him as she leaves with an excitable whoo. "Don't wait up!"
